And Nothingness Became
From emptiness,
in that eternal void and vacuum
where nothing dwelled or existed,
the Lord spoke and with His word
everything became,
suddenly summoned out of blackness,
without evolving or choice,
let it be was the everlasting divine declaration
producing matter out of the darkness.
This miracle of being is the fruition
of His breath blowing with creativity,
giving life when none had even been,
a pure expression of His omnipotence
not requiring thought or transition
to flower as the blossoms of His will.
It is a symbol for the nature of His power,
capturing what is so vast and incompressible
to hands that must sweat and toil
just to shape and mold crafted object.
Within our minds it is impossible to perceive
all the immenseness of His energy
and appreciate how with a single utterance
what He desires to occupy time and space
manifest by the loving gift of His grace.
Perhaps in the writings of the Apostle Paul
we can grasp some special understanding
when he wrote in Ephesians 2: 10,
how we our God’s “creation,”
having a meaning in the original tongue, we our His ‘poem.’
Helping us to fathom
that for our Heavenly Father
every single thing that ever has any substance
was a special part of His literary artistry.
