THE SHADOWS OF A DAY

We don't always know
when the sun of our lives
will be lost to an unexpected darkness.

Blackness sweeping over our hearts,
unable to see or feel without the light
which once burned so steady and bright.

No one steps along the heart beat trail
that at times it doesn't lead into a valley.

Though we think it will last forever
they all come to an end.

Looking back we can see the footprints so clearly
and sometimes they were painful,
ones unable to forget.

Sunrise will still someday bring
its own rays of hope,
warming and perhaps healing
the shadows of a day.
