What Does God Look Like?

Do we look for God

in tabernacles and temples,

try to see His hand

upon the stones and sea,

but get so busy in our minds

so ready to give Him

just one image

that if He is present

as a child

would we really know

how that cherub face

was also part of His appearance?

 

By the splendor in scenic song

have we often define the divine,

though perhaps He comes

with small hands and many needs.

 

For in that voice to tender and young

has Heaven sometimes spoke,

hopefully we aren’t too busy

to notice that frail form before us

who has the Lord holding her

where we can’t see.
