Heaven's Voice

Heaven’s voice is the soothing song

floating so softly on the wind,

an ethereal wisp as light as a feather,

yet singing so loud in the times of quiet,

when our souls have stopped being obsessed

hearing the chaotic timbre of self,

and resonating the tones

that vibrate with pride and vanity.

It is when we cease

our soliloquies of carnal cravings,

pause our lament recitals

and lay down the cymbals of complaint,

God comes as a breath into our hearts,

bringing His insight whispers of peace

allowing our minds to clear

of the day’s clamoring symphony.

Blessed in that sweet hush of calm

which finally listens to His divine wisdom’s harmony.

For without that muffled moment of tranquil revelation

we merely race by the beat of our passions,

so ensnared with the consuming sounds of our footsteps,

thoughts growing confused while ignoring

what stings our senses as His nudge of warning.

Too busy obeying the musicians of haste and impulse

for hesitating where even the Lord’s messengers

would have the sagacity to never venture.

In the darkness where at last we have fallen,

alone and exhausted in our shouting,

at last His vocabulary becomes so clear,

and we no longer have a need to sermonize our actions,

because His love and illumination

becomes the speaker for our lives.

Lips filling with praises for His mercy.

They drowning out ego’s serenade,

which always turn into echoes of remorse.
