Candles In The Closet

Closet monsters kept me
from poking inside its space
when the dark would come,
so I put some candles
on the shelf,
then lit the wick
to be able to see
into the blackness.

Only I remembered
how flames could burn
could cause harm
if you got to close
and never went near the closet
just being too afraid
of fire.
